Welcome to Hello Gorgeous Salon

Welcome to your micro-loc journey with Hello Gorgeous Salon.

Micro locs are a beautiful, intentional commitment that require consistency, patience, and proper care. This guide is designed to help you understand what to expect, how to care for your locs, and how to maintain a healthy scalp throughout your journey.

Our goal is not only beautiful locs — but healthy, thriving hair long-term.

What to Expect (Normal Experiences)

During the early stages of your micro-loc journey, it is completely normal to experience:

  1. Mild tightness or tenderness after installation or retightening
  2. Temporary itching as your scalp adjusts
  3. Frizz and puffiness, especially with new growth
  4. Locs that appear thinner, lighter, or “unfinished” in the beginning

These changes are part of the natural locking process. Trust the process.

Cleansing and Washing Guidelines

Proper cleansing is essential for scalp health and loc formation.

  1. Wait 7–14 days after installation or retightening before washing (unless otherwise instructed)
  2. Use a residue-free, sulfate-free shampoo
  3. Focus on cleansing the scalp, not scrubbing the locs
  4. Wash in a downward motion
  5. Avoid aggressive rubbing or bunching of the locs
  6. Avoid creamy conditioners during the early stages

Do NOT use wax, grease, heavy butters, or thick creams on micro locs.

Moisture & Daily Care

Micro locs thrive with lightweight moisture.

  1. Use light oils such as jojoba, grapeseed, or almond oil
  2. Apply oils sparingly — more product is not better
  3. Lightly mist with water or aloe juice if dryness occurs
  4. Protect locs nightly with a silk or satin scarf or bonnet

Consistency is more important than quantity.

Retightening Schedule

For optimal results, micro-locs should be retightened every 4–6 weeks.

Stretching beyond the recommended timeframe may result in:

  1. Slippage
  2. Matting at the root
  3. Longer appointments
  4. Increased service cost

Consistent maintenance supports healthier locs and smoother appointments.

What NOT To Do

To protect the integrity of your micro locs, please avoid the following:

  1. Do not retighten your own locs unless properly trained
  2. Do not constantly twist, pull, or play in the locs
  3. Avoid excessive or tight styles that cause tension
  4. Avoid over-manipulation
  5. Do not compare your loc journey to others

Every set of locs matures differently — progress is personal.

Scalp Healthy & Communication

Healthy locs begin with a healthy scalp.

Please communicate with Hello Gorgeous Salon if you experience:

  1. Excessive soreness or prolonged pain
  2. Redness or irritation
  3. Severe flaking
  4. Signs of inflammation

Early communication helps prevent long-term issues and ensures proper care.

Stages of the Micro-Loc Journey

Understanding the stages helps manage expectations:

  1. Starter Phase – Neat, soft, and lightweight
  2. Budding Phase – Locs begin to swell and firm
  3. Teen Phase – Frizz, personality, and growth changes
  4. Mature Phase – Fully formed, settled, and strong

Patience is key. Locs cannot be rushed.
